Decorating With Floral Rugs

DM

Perhaps one of the most popular styles of rugs here at DomesticModern.com is the floral rug.  Integrating a floral rug into a decorating scheme is a great way to brighten a room.  But at the same time, selecting the right rug, and appropriate colors can be a daunting task.  The truth is, a vibrant floral pattern can serve as a great starting point when picking the color scheme for a room.  Not only that but floral patterns often times coordinate very nicely with; checkered prints, plaids, and stripes, and of course solid colors.

When matching patterns it’s important to keep in mind that the stronger the floral print that you use, the more subtle and neutral the other prints in the room should be.  A good way to create a color scheme is to use the color of the flowers on the rug to drive the rest of the patterns and pieces in the room.  So if for example you had a beige rug with a burgundy floral print, curtains in a simple burgundy and white striped pattern would be a perfect fit.  Whereas the background color of the rug (in this case beige) should closely resemble the wall color.  If there is a third color look to match that when selecting smaller pieces for the room like vases, pillows, or colored frames.

By following these relatively simple approaches to decorating with a floral rug you should be well on your way to creating a very pleasing and inviting look.
