Decorating With Damask Rugs
DM
The damask pattern is a timeless pattern which originated in India, China, and Persia. It is most often found on wallpaper, bedding, or decorative pillows. Characterized by intricate and elaborate designs this pattern is becoming increasingly popular when used with area rugs as well. Designers such as Thomas Paul, and Brink and Campman offer a great selection of damask rugs.
Although damask rugs create a great look with a relatively modern twist knowing when to use them is not always easy. As is the case with many other unique patterns, integrating them into the design scheme of a room can present somewhat of a challenge. As a general rule thumb you want to make sure that there are not any other intricate patterns already used in the room. So for example deciding to lay a damask pattern rug in a room that already features bedding with a bold floral pattern would be ill advised. So stick to using it to compliment solid colors or very subtle patterns. the good news is often times damask patterns feature two colors and usually a white or an off-white is one of those two colors. So the task of color matching becomes much easier. So by sticking to these relatively simple rules you should have a fairly easy time working a damask pattern into any room you decorate.
